About Me

My name is Aarush Bathula

I am a high school senior at Westview High School, OR interested in medicine, research, and public health.

My interest in drug resistance grew while researching Candida auris, an emerging drug-resistant fungus. That experience showed me how difficult infections can become when the medicines we depend on stop working.

Outside research, I have spent 160+ hours working with patients through COPE Health Scholars, completed 50+ hours of clinical shadowing, competed in HOSA and Science Olympiad, and volunteered in my community.

Fight Drug Resistance is my platform that brings these interests together: research, medicine, education, and service.

Candida auris Research

Worked with Dr. Pappireddy Kancharla on research related to Candida auris, an emerging drug-resistant fungus.

I reviewed scientific papers, analyzed research findings, and learned how researchers study infectious diseases and drug resistance.

This research became the starting point for FightDrugResistance.com.

Doctors Analyzing Scans

AI and Healthcare Research

Explored how technology can improve healthcare.

Developed a machine-learning model to assess colorectal cancer risk, analyzed healthcare data, and presented my findings.

These experiences strengthened my interest in using science and technology to solve healthcare problems.

Leadership

1 / Boy Scouts

Served as Senior Patrol Leader, helping lead and coordinate activities for more than 100 scouts.

Mentored younger scouts, taught outdoor skills, organized campfires, and helped with fundraising efforts that raised more than $1,000.

2 / Science Olympiad - Board Member

Manage and organize a team of about 40 students while competing in Anatomy & Physiology.

3 / Model United Nations - Committee Member

Leading sessions with approximately 60 delegates, teaching procedure, and managing debate.
